Tina Hobo is a singer and pianist from Ukraine. DasNichts is a beatmaker from Germany. He discovered her music on soundcloud, was impressed by her talent and made a remix of one of her songs. She liked it and they immediately decided to make a whole album together - without ever meeting in “real life”. Within a few months they created more than an album. They were in contact every day and developed a close friendship, which shows how real, honest and creative human communication can be – even in times of Facebook, Soundcloud and Instagram.

Tina Hobo composed her sometimes sad, sometimes funny songs on her piano (which she had studied in Kiev), then wrote lyrics to them and sent them to DasNichts. Using his sampling technique and intuitive feeling for creating the suitable atmosphere, he produced the beats to Tina Hobos ideas. Communicating back and forth via Whatsapp and phone calls, they turned their sketches into modern but nostalgic songs.

With the album “Sad Songs”, Tina Hobo & DasNichts created a unique mixture of all their influences: Cabaret, HipHop, theater, TripHop, classical composing, sampling old vinyl and recording acoustic instruments. Being no native speaker, Tina Hobo sings in English with a charming Russian accent, but also uses German and Arabic words and writes whole songs in Ukrainian.

Still don’t have any idea what this could sound like? Just picture a dark basement, where Kurt Weill and Madlib work on a beat together, Lotte Lenya hums a melody, Michael Jackson dances a waltz to it and Elizabeth Siddal paints a picture of the whole scene. That’s what it sounds like. Listen!
